Another idea for a spoon, I added a little whale to the handle.
A canoe paddle is a great first project and can be made from a 2" x 6" hardwood board that is easily found at most lumber yards. Maple is good and if you can find it fresh (not dry) that's even better.

These are small masks, approximately 6" to 7" tall. It might seem a little advanced but with some help this has been a very good project for new carvers. Like all of the projects,we can tailor them to your comfort zone.
Same mask as above with a small face and hands added on top. You could choose to have the face or not depending on your skill level and comfort zone.
Same mask finished.
Two more small masks suited to beginners. There are many more ideas for you to get started, the main thing is not to feel you can't do it. We have had many new carvers that are now working on advanced projects in our classes and at home.
